We offer ProSharp Profiling, a precision blade-shaping service designed to optimise every stride.
By customising the contour of your skate blades, ProSharp enhances acceleration, speed, agility, and balance, giving you a competitive edge on the ice. Whether you’re a casual player or a serious athlete, our profiling service ensures your skates are tuned to match your style and performance needs.
Benefits
Profiling improves all four essential aspects of skating. Additional advantages include improved edge control, greater endurance and less fatigue.
Acceleration & Quick Starts – Tailored blade shape enhances the initial stride, helping you explode off the line.
Transition & Agility – Promotes smooth moves between acceleration and top speed, creating seamless pivoting and tight turns.
Top‑End Speed – Increases blade‑to‑ice contact for sustained power and faster glide.
Balance & Stability – Optimises rear blade curvature for improved control, stopping and equilibrium.
Profile Types
The “profile” of your skate blade refers to its shape along the length of the steel. The right profile can improve your balance, speed, agility, and overall performance on the ice. Here are the most common types:
1. Single Radius Profile
The same radius is applied across the entire blade.
Simple, consistent feel that’s great for beginners and players who want predictability.
Example: 9’, 10’, or 11’ radius (smaller radius = more agility, larger radius = more stability).
2. Dual Radius Profile
Two different radii on one blade (often shorter in the front, longer in the back).
Provides a balance of agility and stability.
Popular with all-around players looking for quick turns without losing glide speed.
3. Triple Radius Profile
Three radii blended across the blade for a more customized performance.
Can be set up to maximize acceleration, balance, and glide depending on player style.
Ideal for advanced players who want a more tailored feel.
4. Quad Profile
Four radii combined across the blade, offering the most customized option.
Provides quick acceleration in the toes, stable balance in the middle, and strong glide in the heel.
Great for elite players who want a highly tuned setup.
5. Goalie Profiles
Specially profiled for goalies with flatter sections for stability in the crease.
How it Works
Skate profiling reshapes the steel on your blades to match the way you skate. By adjusting the blade’s radius (the curve along its length), we fine-tune your balance point, agility, and glide.
Smaller radius = quicker turns and faster starts
Larger radius = more stability and longer stride
Custom multi-radius profiles blend the best of both for all-around performance
Profiling aligns your skates with your skating style, so every stride feels more efficient and controlled.
FAQs
Profiling (also called blade contouring) shapes the rocker and radius of your skate blade to match your skating style and position.
Sharpening affects the hollow (edge depth); profiling affects the shape and balance of the blade from heel to toe.
Any player looking for more control, better stride efficiency, or custom balance. It’s especially useful for competitive athletes or those changing skates.
Most players only need it once when they get new steel – unless they’re trying a new profile or switching positions.
Yes. We utilize precision equipment and custom templates to fine-tune a profile that fits your game. Ask us in-store and we’ll walk you through it.
Yes. Goalie blades use flatter profiles for balance and lateral movement. We contour them for stance, post-play, and push efficiency.
Definitely. A properly profiled blade improves edge contact and slide control — critical for fast recoveries and smooth transitions.
Not always. Most younger players do well with stock profiles, but if they’re serious or skating competitively, a custom contour can make a big difference.
It can! If your player’s struggling with forward lean, balance, or power, the right profile may help their mechanics feel more natural.
