Whether you’re a casual player or a serious athlete, our profiling service ensures your skates are tuned to match your style and performance needs.

Profile Types

The “profile” of your skate blade refers to its shape along the length of the steel. The right profile can improve your balance, speed, agility, and overall performance on the ice. Here are the most common types:

1. Single Radius Profile

The same radius is applied across the entire blade.
Simple, consistent feel that’s great for beginners and players who want predictability.
Example: 9’, 10’, or 11’ radius (smaller radius = more agility, larger radius = more stability).

2. Dual Radius Profile

Two different radii on one blade (often shorter in the front, longer in the back).
Provides a balance of agility and stability.
Popular with all-around players looking for quick turns without losing glide speed.

3. Triple Radius Profile

Three radii blended across the blade for a more customized performance.
Can be set up to maximize acceleration, balance, and glide depending on player style.
Ideal for advanced players who want a more tailored feel.

4. Quad Profile

Four radii combined across the blade, offering the most customized option.
Provides quick acceleration in the toes, stable balance in the middle, and strong glide in the heel.
Great for elite players who want a highly tuned setup.

5. Goalie Profiles

Specially profiled for goalies with flatter sections for stability in the crease.

How it Works

Skate profiling reshapes the steel on your blades to match the way you skate. By adjusting the blade’s radius (the curve along its length), we fine-tune your balance point, agility, and glide.

Geoff Ames has spent his whole life at Cheam Sports. His dad, Bob Ames, bought the store in 1973 — and Geoff’s been fanatical about sizing up Chilliwack athletes ever since. He’s the only human on earth to reach exceptional exceptional status.

Brian Gillespie

Brian Gillespie started hanging around the shop in the mid-’80s. In fact, he was here so much, they finally put him to work. Since then, he’s become the Chilliwack Chiefs’ Equipment Manager and the go-to guy for precision sharpening and profiling.
